Go Vote
Just wanted to pop in today and remind us to vote. Between sickness and travel we’ve gotten a bit behind, but I wanted to make sure to share a little about this act of voting that we get to participate in.
When I was in college, my roommate was a Cambodian refugee. I learned a lot from her and her story. One of the beautiful things I got to see was the process of becoming a citizen. During my college years she qualified for citizenship and took her oath. I will always remember her talking about the privilege it is to be able to vote. For her, this was a critically important way to have a say in how the world works. Her fervency about voting has always stuck with me
So today, while the clock is ticking, I want to remind you to vote. Polls are often open after work hours and once you’re in line, you get to vote. So please, if you haven’t yet, go vote.
In my interfaith work, one of the phrases that I have been influenced by in Judaism is Tikkun Olam - to repair the world. Along with this phrase is the concept that I need to do my part of the work. While I cannot fix everything, I need to do my part. Just because I can’t finish the work doesn’t mean I’m excused from participating in it.
Voting is our work today. To go out and make our mark. To go out and choose how we want this world to be.
Please take the time to vote.
